PARC launches awareness campaign against congo fever

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9 (APP):The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) in collaboration with the international and national research organizations, Donner agencies and other stakeholders have launched a series of seminar and road shows in order to educate the masses and create awareness among them about the Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).
Besides, the PARC is taking several other steps for sensitizing the common man against this viral disease and started campaign through its mobile veterinary clinic in the Islamabad Capital Territory and other areas of the country to avoid any outbreak of the CCHF.
The CCHF is widespread, tick-borne viral disease affecting humans, as it endemic in many regions, such as Africa, Asia, Eastern and Southern Europe and Central Asia, says a press release issued by PARC here on Thursday.
There is no specific treatment or vaccine against CCHF and it is considered an emerging zoonotic disease in many countries, it said adding that recently, the incidence of CCHF has increased rapidly in the countries of the World Health Organization-Eastern Mediterranean Region (WHO-EMR), with sporadic human cases and outbreaks of CCHF being reported from a number of countries in the region.
Pakistan is ranked as number 4 in the overall CCHF cases in WHO-EMR and scientists of PARC have been engaged in the development of WHO-CCHF research and development road map for preventing epidemics, it added.
It said that the PARC is having research collaboration with WHO Collaborating Centre for Virus Reference and Research, Public Health England and Department of Infectious Diseases Tokyo, Japan for the development of diagnostics.
The PARC has recently granted a research project on the development of diagnostic assays for CCHF and scientists are actively engaged and assisted in the preparation of CCHF contingency plan for the Pakistan in consultation with National Institute of Health, Islamabad.
The research council has also advised the general public for adopting precautionary measures to prevent from the Congo fever and asked for keep away from the animals having ticks and only select tick free animals for sacrificial purposes and apply anti-tick sprays on animals before entering the livestock market.
It asked that do not handle or try to pick ticks from animals, bare handed and always use full sleeve and bright color shirts, when going to animal markets and no body part should be exposed. The ticks could be easily seen on bright color cloths.
Do not handle meat bare handed and keep children away from animals, besides professional butchers may be hired for slaughtering animals and area where the animal was slaughtered should be washed thoroughly using disinfectants, it added.
In case of appearance of symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in muscles and abdomen, immediately consult physician.

Indonesia to encourage production of palm oil: Envoy

 

FAISALABAD, Aug 8 (APP)::Indonesia will encourage production of Palm Oil and its processing in addition to the production of high value products from this edible oil as joint ventures in Pakistan, said Mr. Wisnu Suryo Hutomo Minister Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad.
During a meeting with Acting President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) Farooq Yusuf in his office here Wednesday, Mr. Hutomo said that there were vast opportunities of exploiting untapped trade potential between the two brotherly countries.
“Pakistan is exporting rice while there is huge demand of Pakistani Kinnow and Mango in Indonesia,” he said and added that Indonesia was also exporting palm oil to Pakistan. However, efforts are being made to encourage production of palm oil in Pakistan in collaboration with Indonesian businessmen.
He said that he had visited University of Agriculture (UAF) so that high yielding varieties of Indonesian Palm could be cultivated in Pakistan. He said that a proposal also under consideration to setup a refinery to process crude oil in order to produce food grade palm oil.
He said this would initiate a process for the production of a long chain of high value products including biscuits, chocolates, soap and cosmetics etc.
He said that he had been trying to promote consensus on these projects between the investors of two countries as it may ensure balance bilateral trade between the two countries.
Regarding China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Mr. Hutomo said that 288 different projects were being implemented with huge investment of 63 billion dollars. “This major infrastructure will not only benefit Pakistan but also ensure enhanced connectivity between the regional countries,” he said and added that proposed palm oil refinery would not only cater to the domestic needs of Pakistan but its products could also be exported to others countries.
He further said that a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) had already been signed between the two countries while Pakistani business community should contact its commerce ministry to finalize the draft of the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Mr. Hutomo said that 33rd Trade Expo would be organized from October 24 to 28, 2018 in Indonesia. He said that 11000 exhibitors and 28,000 visitors expected to visit this mega event.
He said that exporters of knitted kids’ wear should also participate in the event as Indonesia was a major consumer market of kids’ cloth. He said that he would visit Faisalabad next month along with Indonesia ambassador to formally invite business community of Faisalabad to participate in this trade expo.
He further said that Indonesia would provide free visa for 30 days to the participants from 174 countries for this trade expo.
He said that it’s a big opportunity to make exports to Indonesia and hence, exporters of Faisalabad should also avail from tit.
Earlier, Farooq Yusuf, Acting President FCCI said that trade balance was in favor of Indonesia and the proposed palm oil production and refinery would help in balancing trade between the two countries.
He said that Indonesian investors could also invest in hydro projects and alternative energy resources while joint ventures could also be initiated in textiles, agro based industry, livestock, fruit processing, Halal meat, leather goods, oil and gas, information technology, tourism, organic as well as inorganic agro-based products and food items.
Miss Adelin Indah Marisa, Third Secretary Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia was also present during this meeting.
Later, Farooq Yusuf presented FCCI shield to Mr. Wisnu Suryo Hutomo Minister Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy.

دبئی میں جیولری مصنوعات کی بین الاقوامی نمائش نومبر میں ہوگی

اسلام آباد ۔ 8 اگست (اے پی پی) متحدہ عرب امارات کے شہر دبئی میں جیولری مصنوعات کی بین الاقوامی نمائش نومبر میں منعقد ہوگی۔ انٹرنیشنل جیولری شو وی او ڈی دبئی 2018ءکے نام سے بین الاقوامی نمائش 14 نومبر سے شروع ہوکر 17 نومبر تک جاری رہی گی۔ اس نمائش میں پاکستان سمیت متعدد ممالک کی کمپنیوں کی شرکت متوقع ہے۔ گولڈ اینڈ جیمز آرٹ پروموشن کونسل آف پاکستان کے بیان کے مطابق کونسل کے مندوبین اس نمائش میں شریک ہوں گے۔ اس نمائش میں 26 ممالک کی 500 کی قریب کمپنیاں اپنی مصنوعات کی نمائش کریں گی جبکہ 80 ممالک کے تاجر بھی اس نمائش میں شریک ہوں گے۔

کاروں کی درآمدات پر جون میں 4.02 ارب کا زرمبادلہ خرچ

اسلام آباد ۔ 6 اگست (اے پی پی) رواں سال جون کے مہینے میں کاروں کی درآمدات پر 4.02 ارب کا زرمبادلہ خرچ کیا گیا۔ ادارہ شماریات پاکستان کے اعدادوشمار کے مطابق جون 2018ءکے دوران کاروں کی درآمد پر پاکستان کا 4.02 ارب روپے کا زرمبادلہ خرچ ہوا جو گذشتہ سال جون کے مقابلے میں 14.04 فیصد کم ہے۔ جون 2017ءکے دوران پاکستان نے کاروں کی درآمدات پر 4.67 ارب روپے کا زرمبادلہ خرچ کیا تھا۔
